I wonder if another component of this--feeling one's emotions and reacting appropriately to or with them--is time management. So many of us are readers or viewers of material on how to manage our time better because we seem to be going 24/7 and still falling behind. Rather than a new system for managing our time, though, I wonder if we need to cut back on what we're trying to do. Rather than trying to find a way to cram everything in, perhaps we need to figure out what to let go of, even if it's something we enjoy. It's hard to really be present, even at a wonderful activity or event, if you're tired or feeling something else is being neglected.

this is such a necessary and important comment, thank you!! I think this has been something I’m wrestling with a lot lately when trying to figure out what my doctors call “pacing” for my long covid. Some things can take a lot more energy than others and it’s so surprising to me. But I’m finding what’s most important of all is to not be so much in “survival mode” that I can’t even make conscious decisions about what I’m spending my energy on.

Very curious to hear any of your findings as you explore this more!! It is certainly very active area of exploration for me too 🥰

Yes!!! This is powerful 💪... It's a coming home to our bodies & our truth and then acting on it like it matters right! 💚

Totally!! And there are so many ways to say “no” too - sometimes it might look like active resistance but other times maybe just stepping back is enough! Such a fun topic to explore.

Once again, Bri, you hit such a resonant chord for me. You are tapped into a profound and powerful wisdom source we have never needed more as a human collective. What you are focusing on in this essay is something that keeps percolating up for me as well...and you put it stunningly here:

"Is regulating ourselves not part of sustaining the longevity and power of our resistance?"

YES!!!!! Imagine the world if most humans were self regulating.

The world we see now is largely because we aren't. It's so important to see this clearly and contribute to healing instead of wounding. Self regulation allows for this in ways that are truly profound and underutilized. I'm grateful for your work, your writing, your Substack friendship, and for this reminder. Thank you! 💚💚💚💚💚

Ground to gather strength,

to respond, refuse, resist.

Beyond grin and bear.

Feel, see more clearly,

defend, protect as needed.
